McKinney-Cole Two-Way Reversion Project
Patrick Kennedy began working with Uptown Dallas, Inc in 2014 with a simple request. “Tell us everything that is wrong.” After an initial analysis stage, thirty public improvement ideas were presented and then prioritized through a voting process organizing potential initiatives by ‘Quick Wins’ and Long-Term Actions. The Long-Term Action supported by the board was the two-way ‘reversion’ of McKinney and Cole, the main streets of Uptown Dallas. After building consensus among stakeholders, the Thoroughfare Plan Amendment passed city council unanimously. After which, $21 million was assembled via federal funding sources, 2017 city bond election, and local sources.
